About Doodle for Google

Doodle for Google is an annual contest held for students at K-12 level. Students are invited to create their own Google Doodle for an opportunity to be featured on Google.com, while winning several cutting-edge technology packages for their schools and great scholarships. This contest will be a good opportunity for students to display their own artworks on Google.com.

Doodle for Google was first held in 2008 for US students, and in 2020 this contest will reach its eighth period. Students must be US citizens or legal residents of the United States and must be able to show a green card as a proof. Schools in Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands can also register for the contest.

Parents, teachers, non-profit organizations and after school programs are allowed to enroll their students in the contest. They will be required to sign an entry form that is collected on behalf of their students. Students who enter Doodle for Google must be enrolled to US schools. There is no limit in the number of Doodles that parents, teachers and non-profit organizations can submit, but it should be noted that Google will only accept one original doodle per student.

Because this competition was organized by Google, participants have to incorporate the logo of Google into their works. Students can trace the logo’s outline on the entry form, or start from scratch using whatever material they wish. Students are free to be creative with their Doodle as long as they use the letters G-o-o-g-l-e in their drawings. Because the winning Doodle will appear on the front page of Google.com as an interactive experience created by the Doodle team, the panelists of the judges will evaluate all the results of the Doodle submitted in 2D format.

How It Works

Students can imagine as creatively as possible to create a Google Doodle based on the theme “what kindness means to you”. Participants can work with whatever material they prefer, but all doodles must be collected according to the provided entry form.

Parents and teachers can post completed entry forms or submit them online with a .jpg or .png file extension. Registration for the Google for Doodles contest is open until March 13, 2020 at 8 pm Pacific Time.

Some information that can help students to get started is as follows.

  1. Print the entry form or download via https://kstatic.googleusercontent.com/files/.
  2. Students can create their doodles using whatever material they want, from colored pencils, crayons, to clay.
  3. Include a complete explanation of what you have drawn and how the doodle represents the meaning of kindness for you at least 50 words.
  4. Fill in the rest of the required information such as parental consent and sign the entry form.
  5. Enter the contest via https://doodles.google.com/d4g/enter/.
  6. The method of collecting works is distinguished based on the way in which they work. If the doodle is drawn directly on the entry form, you can upload it to Google with a .jpg or .png file extension or post them via mail. If you are working on doodling in different field other than the entry form, take a high-resolution picture or scan your doodle and combine it with the entry form.
  7. The entry form should be printed on a piece of lightweight paper measuring 8.5″X11″ and signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  8. To collect login forms online, access https://doodle4google.com. Please pay attention to any existing conditions. Google is not responsible for entries that are collected incorrectly or are not eligible using a digital upload tool.
  9. To submit the entry form via post, please send it in an envelope and package it carefully to prevent damage to the following address:

In addition to involving well-known figures, the artworks of the participants will also be evaluated by the public. People are asked to vote for their favorite doodles online, one that they think is the best from each grade group. These voters are expected to help spread information about their favorite doodles by sharing them with their family and friends.

Educator Resources

Google provides several resources for educators who will accompany their students in the Doodle for Google competition. These resources will later be useful for teachers to explore insight for the participants and make them scribbling and sketching their visions.
