Fulbright Scholarship Programs

The Fulbright Program awards approximately 8,000 grants annually. Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program

The Humphrey Fellowship Program provides mid-career professionals from designated countries with an opportunity to enhance their professional capabilities through participation in specialized, then-month, non-degree programs developed specifically for small clusters of Humphrey Fellows at selected U.S. universities. The program provides a basis for establishing long-lasting productive partnerships and relationships between citizens of the United States and their professional counterparts in other countries, fostering an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding throughout the world.

In order to be eligible to participate in the Humphrey Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following basic eligibility criteria:

  • An undergraduate (first university or Bachelor’s) degree
  • A minimum of five years of full-time, professional experience
  • Limited or no prior experience in the United States
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • A record of public service in the community
  • English language ability

Inquiries about possible specific program requirements may be sent to the U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section or Binational Fulbright Commission in your country.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program support studies in the areas of sustainable development, democratic institution building, education, and public health. The fellowship provides for:

  • payment of tuition and fees at the assigned host university
  • pre-academic English language training, if required
  • a maintenance (living) allowance, including a one-time settling-in allowance
  • accident and sickness coverage
  • a book allowance
  • a one-time computer subsidy
  • air travel (international travel to and from the U.S. for the program and domestic travel to required program events)
  • a Professional Development allowance for professional activities, such as field trips, professional visits and conferences

Civil Society Leadership Awards

The Civil Society Leadership Awards (CSLA) provide fully-funded scholarships for master’s degree study in U.S.A., to individuals who clearly demonstrate academic and professional excellence and a deep commitment to leading positive social change in their communities. Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program provides expenses for a four-year course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, for up to 11 exceptionally able students annually from these countries and regions: the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Each Freeman Scholar will receive a full scholarship that covers the cost of tuition and student fees regardless of his/her family’s financial situation. Families wishing to apply for financial aid to assist with the costs associated with room, board, travel, and books and supplies should submit the Profile Form of the College Scholarship Service (CSS). Wesleyan’s Financial Aid Office will determine the family contribution. The family contribution is comprised of a parent contribution based on the parent(s) income and assets, as well as a student contribution.

The selection criteria for this scholarship include:

  • academic achievement
  • intellectual curiosity
  • a high level of discipline and commitment
  • strong personal qualities
  • extracurricular involvement, especially community service
  • English language ability

AAUW International Fellowships

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers fellowships for female international students to study in the U.S. AAUW’s International Fellowship program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. A limited number of awards are available for study outside of the U.S. (excluding the applicant’s home country) to women who are members of Graduate Women International. Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work.

Up to five International Fellowships for master’s / first professional degrees will be renewable for a second year. The amount of awards vary as the following:

  • Master’s / first professional degree: $18,000
  • Doctoral: $20,000
  • Postdoctoral: $30,000

Rotary Peace Fellowships

Each year, Rotary awards up to 100 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of Rotary’s peace centers. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the fellows into experienced and effective catalysts for peace. The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.

The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 50 for certificate studies at premier universities.

  • Master’s degree programs: Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The program lasts 15 to 24 months and includes a 2-3 month field study, which participants design themselves.
  • Professional development certificate program: Experienced leaders gain practical tools for promoting peace and international development during an intensive, 3-month program, which includes 3 weeks of field study and peer learning opportunities with a diverse group.
