NTU offers a variety of NTU scholarships to new as well as current students pursuing their full-time graduate studies. NTU scholarships are generally awarded to students based on academic merit and good co-curricular records.

Below are some of the NTU Scholarships that are awarded to international students.

1. A*STAR Graduate Scholarship

A collaboration between A*STAR, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and Singapore Management University (SMU), the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) enables you to undertake research at an A*STAR Research Institute and register your Ph.D. candidature at NTU, NUS, SUTD or SMU. The scholarship finances up to four years of your Ph.D. studies in Singapore.

The deadline for this scholarship application is February 1st, 2021.

Who should apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be Singaporeans and other nationals are welcomed to apply,
  • Be Non-Singaporeans must have completed a degree in a Singapore autonomous university,
  • Satisfy criteria for and seek admission to a Ph.D. program in an autonomous university,
  • Have obtained at least a 2nd Upper-Class Honours Degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines,
  • Have a strong interest in a research career.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Successful applicants will be given the following support for up to 4 years:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
  • Other allowances including
  • Book allowance

  • Thesis allowance
  • Support for up to 12 months of overseas attachment

2. APEC Scholarship

This full scholarship is open to nationals from the APEC member economies (except Singapore) to pursue a full-time MBA program at Nanyang Business School. Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents and recipients of other NTU scholarships or bursaries are not eligible to apply. The scholars are allowed to do an internship but without payment.

The deadline for application is March 31st.

The scholarship shall cover the following:

  • Full tuition fee
  • Book allowance of S$500
  • Cost of one overseas Business Study Mission (for MBA candidates only) undertaken within the tenable period of the scholarship
  • Cost of travel from home country to Singapore on the award of the scholarship
  • Cost of travel from Singapore to home country on successful completion of the Master’s degree within the tenable period of the scholarship
  • Monthly stipend of S$1,350.00
  • Tuition fee, health insurance, examination fee, and other approved fees, allowances, and expenses

3. Economic Development Board Industrial Postgraduate Programme (EDB-IPP)

The Industrial Postgraduate Programme (IPP) is an initiative by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to build a pool of postgraduate manpower in Singapore with critical R&D skillsets through training in a corporate R&D environment and local universities. At the end of the training, graduates will take on R&D roles in the industry.​

Who should apply?

Admitted EDB-IPP trainees must be full-time employees of the company while pursuing full-time research programs at NTU.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Sponsorship terms by EDB & company include full tuition fees for the research program, monthly salary, and employer’s CPF contribution (remuneration is determined by the company).

4. Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship

Established in honor of former Prime Minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, this scholarship is available for outstanding Singaporeans dedicated to contributing positively to society. Since its inception in 1991, many holders of this prestigious scholarship have gone on to make significant contributions in various fields such as Public Service, business, law, medicine, the arts, and academia.

This scholarship is offered by the Public Service Commission of Singapore. Application for the 2021 Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship opens from November 23rd, 2020 to January 29th, 2021.

Who should apply?

Applicants, who must be Singapore citizens, will be assessed holistically. This includes their track record of leadership and service (e.g. volunteer work, social enterprise, contributions to cultural, scientific, and/or academic communities, etc.) as well as academic and professional achievements.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Scholarship recipients will receive:

  • An annual allowance of S$50,000 for private sector awardees (up to 2 years of sponsorship for a Master’s degree and up to 5 years of sponsorship for a Ph.D. degree) or
  • A one-off sum of S$10,000 for public sector awardees, if they are concurrently sponsored by their agencies

5. MSc (TIP) Financial Grants

Offered by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) since 2002, the Master of Science Technopreneurship and Innovation Programme (MSc TIP) equips students with essential entrepreneurial skills and business acumen to turn novel ideas into successful ventures.

The deadline for the grant application is February 15th, 2021.

Who should apply?

The grants are available for students with a good bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline of study from a recognized university or tertiary institution, proficiency in the English language, a strong passion for entrepreneurship, and work experience.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Winners of the scholarship will receive several awards as follows.

  • Financial grants open to Singapore citizens (S$30,000)
  • Financial grants open to non-Singapore citizens (S$30,000)
  • NTC-MSc TIP Merit Award (up to S$5,000)

6. Muhammad Ariff Ahmad (MAS) Postgraduate Scholarship

Muhammad Ariff Ahmad (MAS) Postgraduate Scholarship is initiated in honor of Dr. Muhammad Ariff Ahmad, a highly-regarded Malay scholar whose encyclopedic knowledge and contributions in the fields of Malay literature, culture, education, and language are pivotal in shaping and advancing Malay cultural studies in Singapore and the region.

Applications are open from September 15th to November 30th each year.

Who should apply?

For the MA candidates, the scholarship is open to Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents with First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours only. For the Ph.D. candidates, the scholarship is open to students with an excellent academic record, regardless of nationality.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

S$4,000 will be disbursed to the successful applicant in the first semester of the MA program and the balance of S$6,000 to be disbursed upon confirmation of the applicant’s candidature.

On the other hand, S$5,000 will be disbursed to the successful applicant in the first semester of the Ph.D. program and the balance of S$10,000 will be disbursed upon confirmation of the applicant’s candidature.

7. Nanyang Fellows Scholarship

These partial NTU scholarships are offered on a competitive basis to outstanding candidates of exceptional ability and sterling track record. Each scholarship is tenable for a period of one (1) year only.

The deadline for scholarship applications for July 2021 intake is January 31st, 2021.

8. Ngee Ann Kongsi Postgraduate Scholarships (Social Sciences)

As the Singapore population ages rapidly, there is a need to have more trained professionals to work in counseling, gerontology, psychology, social work, para-medical work, and many more. The Ngee Ann Kongsi will offer up to 12 postgraduate scholarships in Social Sciences annually, commencing in 2015, to attract more to join these professions.

Applications are open throughout the year.

Who should apply?

The NTU Scholarships are available to Singapore citizens or permanent residents pursuing a postgraduate program in social sciences in any of the Ministry of Education’s approved institutions, including the Nanyang Technological University.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

This scholarship enables students to obtain their postgraduate degrees for free in the social sciences discipline.

9. NGS (Water) Scholarship

The NGS (Water) Scholarship offers support for up to four years of academic pursuit, leading to a Ph.D. in the fields of Environmental Science & Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biological Sciences, and Materials Science or Engineering.

Who should apply?

No restriction to the nationality of candidates but all things being equal, preference will be given to Singapore citizens and Singapore permanent residents. You must have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent at Bachelor’s level. If you have not yet completed your undergraduate degree program, you will need to furnish documentation from your university that you are on track to get a First Class Honours degree or equivalent.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

The scholarship covers the following expenses.

  • Full tuition fees,
  • Monthly stipend of up to S$3,500,
  • Conference allowance up to S$54,000 per year,
  • One-time IT allowance of S$1,500,
  • The annual grant of S$500 for journal subscription or book purchase,
  • Thesis preparation allowance.

10. NTU-MBA Scholarship

There are three NTU scholarships that you can choose from in this category.

NTU Business Talent Scholarship for Africa

With the expanding Singapore-Africa business links and NTU’s established Centre for African Studies, Nanyang Business School looks to advance business ties by developing deserving talent from Africa. Other than demonstrating a solid academic background, candidates applying to this partial scholarship must display the intent/dedication to expand African businesses’ capacity in Asia and vice versa.

The deadline for scholarship applications is March 30th.

NTU Innovation Leader Scholarship

With NTU’s steep tradition in technology and innovation, Nanyang Business School is committed to nurturing innovators, who at the same time, see themselves as future business leaders. This partial scholarship will support creative talents to achieve the prestigious Nanyang MBA while enhancing their understanding and leadership role in the business arena.

The deadline for scholarship applications is March 30th.

NTU Alumni Grant

NTU alumni who have completed a bachelor’s or post-graduate degree at NTU are eligible for an alumni grant of 10% of the tuition fees. The subsidy can only be used to offset the tuition fee and cannot be used to offset other costs such as student service fees or miscellaneous fees.

11. Pradap Kow Scholarship

The Pradap Kow Scholarship Fund is an endowment established by the estate of the late Mr. Koh Choon Joo in remembrance of his wife, Madam Pradap Kow who was also a teacher during her time. The income generated from the investment fund is used to fund postgraduate NTU scholarships.

Who should apply?

Preference shall be given to Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents who pursue a Master’s program at the National Institute of Education. The scholarship is also available for international students.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Winners will receive a monthly stipend of up to S$2,500.

12. PSC Master’s Scholarship

The Public Service Commission (PSC) Master’s Scholarship is for undergraduates who are keen to pursue a Master’s degree upon graduation or recent graduates with no more than three years of working experience in the private/non-government sector. Public officers can contact their respective agencies for postgraduate sponsorship.

Who should apply?

The PSC Master’s Scholarship is for outstanding undergraduates who want to serve Singapore and Singaporeans, through a fulfilling and rewarding career in the Civil Service.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Winners of the scholarship will receive several awards as follows.

  • Tuition fees and other approved charges,
  • Development programs in preparation for a career in the Civil Service,
  • Maintenance and other allowances,
  • Return airfare (if applicable),
  • Sponsorship of PSC development programs, approved student exchange programs, summer programs, and CCAs.

13. SCELSE Ph.D. Scholarship

The Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), bridging environmental engineering and contemporary life sciences to explore and translate the biology of microbial biofilms into environmental solutions.

SCELSE’s graduate students can select from four fields of biofilm-related study designed to function in an integrated way:

  1. Environmental Engineering
  2. Meta-’omics and Systems Biology
  3. Microbial Biofilms
  4. Public Health

SCELSE graduate students have the advantage of gaining skills as part of a truly interdisciplinary team.

Who should apply?

The scholarship is open to graduates from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable international standing with a Second Upper Class in Honours degree or equivalent at Bachelor’s level.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

Scholarship recipients will receive:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Highly competitive monthly stipend
  • Allowances for conferences, IT, thesis preparation

14. Tan Poey Quee NIE Doctor Education (NIE-EdD) Scholarship

NIE offers the Doctor in Education (EdD) program, designed for professionals in education and education-related fields, who would like to extend their expertise and training and develop skills in research, evaluation, and reflection on practice.

Subject to the university’s prevailing spending policy, the scholarship may be awarded in each academic year. The Selection Committee can also decide not to award the scholarship if there are no suitable candidates.

Who should apply?

The scholarship is available to new students enrolling for the full-time or part-time NIE Doctor in Education program.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

The scholarship shall be awarded each year up to a quantum of S$18,000 per scholarship per year, renewable in the 2nd year of candidature.

15. Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory

The Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL) offers an intensive Ph.D. program to prepare the next generation of scientists for exciting careers in Life Sciences. A true international research institute, our students and staff come from over 23 countries. Combined with state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and dedicated support staff, the graduate program provides the highest level of training possible.

Who should apply?

Applicants with TOEFL or IELTS scores and GRE or GATE scores are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

TLL anticipates accepting 10-12 students per year into the Ph.D. Graduate Program.

16. VinGroup Graduate Scholarship

Applications for this scholarship are open twice annually: October 1st – January 31st (for the August admission period) and June 1st – July 31st (for the January admission period).

Who should apply?

Vietnamese students who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or a Master’s degree in the areas of science, technology, and engineering, and who fulfill NTU’s admissions requirements may apply for the scholarship.

What benefits does this scholarship provide?

The award covers the annual tuition fee, miscellaneous fees, and monthly stipends.
