The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation’s Scholarship for Moms
The first woman of color to be elected to the United States House of Representatives was Patsy Takemoto Mink. In 2003, a year after she died, the foundation was established to continue its endeavours to provide more equal access to education for low-income women, with a strong focus on mothers. The foundation awards five scholarships with a maximum of $5,000 each.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Must be a woman with minor children, at least 17 years old
- Must be considered low income, have annual household income below US$ 20-28,000 (depending on how many members of your family you have)
- Must have a first degree in one of the following degrees – vocational, certification, associate degree, bachelor degree, master degree
- Should be enrolled to a non-profit institution
Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund
Jeannette Rankin became the first woman elected to the United States Congress in 1916. She devoted part of her fortune in her will to helping mature women get an education. This fund was created by her friends and administrative secretary to fulfill their wishes. While there is no specification on how much each woman can earn, over the past 40 years the organization has awarded scholarships to over 900 women – a total of $2 million overall.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- A US citizen or permanent resident
- Have a low annual income
- Must be a woman, 35 years old or older
Rosenfield Injury Lawyers Scholarships for Single Moms
Each year the Rosenfield Injury Lawyers award two scholarships to single mothers. One scholarship goes towards a single mother who is enrolled in an undergraduate or community college programme. The other scholarship is for a single mother enrolled in an accredited school of law. Both scholarship prizes amount to $1,000.
Here are the eligibility requirements:
- Enrolled in a US acrredited university, college, or highschool
- Must be a mother attending school
- Must maintain a 3.0 grade average
Emerge’s Scholarship for Single Moms and Other Women
Emerge has granted women over $500,000 in academic scholarships since its founding in 2001. His commitment to helping women gain education arises from his belief that this will have a powerful ripple effect on society. The people behind Emerge know that their families get better opportunities for education when women are educated and make a difference in the world too. Emerge places strong emphasis on women who not only give back to their families but also to their communities to ensure that the ripple effect they create will have the greatest impact it can have.

- Are passionate about what you are studying
- Cannot be a recent high school graduate (you need to be a nontraditional student, like someone who’s going back to school as an adult, changing careers, looking to advance in their careers, or looking for education so you can go back to the workforce after being a stay at home mom)

Capture the Dream’s Scholarship for Single Moms and Dads
For over 10 years, Capture the Dream has managed to help single parents, underrepresented minorities and disadvantaged youth achieve their goals. Capture the Dream wants to ensure that the cost of rapidly increasing tuition doesn’t stand in the way of that happening. It supports education and the arts development, and creates programs to help those in need. Single Parent Scholarship provides US$ 1,000 per beneficiary.
Eligibility requirements for these scholarships for single moms are as follows:
- Enrolled at a not-for-profit accredited institution
- Have a low income household
- Must be a single parent living in the United States’ Bay Area
Educational Foundation for Women in Women in Need Scholarship
This scholarship is for a woman who is her family’s primary source of support and is completing her sophomore year of academic pursuit to earn a Bachelor in Accounting degree. It is awarded for two years in the amount of $2,000 per year and will be renewed for the second year after satisfactory course work is completed as demonstrated by a 3.0 GPA.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
- Clear evidence that goals and a plan for achieving those goals, both personal and professional, have been established
- Commitment to the goal of pursuing a degree in Accounting in preparation for a career as an accounting or finance professional, including evidence of continued commitment to this goal after receiving the award
- Demonstrated financial need
- Demonstrated aptitude in accounting and business as evidenced by prior course work and/or work experience
- Female US citizen attending accredited US school pursuing an accounting degree

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Scholarship
In preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science, the SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs. SWE paid out around 238 new and renewed scholarships valued at over $830,000 in 2018. The non-traditional scholarships have been set up to help women return to school to acquire an engineering degree.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Enrolled at any year of engineering school, including graduate school
- Full or part time student
- Have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study
- No minimum GPA requirement for students entering their first year as a non-traditional student
Women Techmakers Scholars
Through the Women Techmakers Scholars Program – formerly the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship Program – Google is furthering Dr. Anita Borg’s vision of creating gender equality in the tech industry by encouraging women to excel as active participants and leaders in the field.
Women Techmakers Scholars will each receive $10,000 USD (for US students) or $5,000 CAD (for Canadian students) for the academic year 2020–2021. Scholarships will be honored depending on the merits of the impact on diversity, demonstrated leadership and educational background of each candidate. The program is open to all minimum qualifications students and we strongly encourage women to apply. In the summer of 2020, all scholarship recipients will be invited to the annual Google Scholars Retreat to connect with fellow scholars, network with Googlers and take part in a number of development workshops.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
- Be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field OR be studying video game programing, game engineering, game design and development, or a closely related field in gaming
- Currently be enrolled at an accredited university for the 2019-2020 academic year
- Demonstrate a strong academic record
- Exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for increasing the involvement of women in technology (i.e. computer science or gaming)
- Have a high school degree or equivalent
- Intend to be enrolled or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada for the 2020-2021 academic year
