  1. Université Catholique de Louvain

Université Catholique de Louvain is Belgium’s largest French-speaking university. It is located in Louvain-la-Neuve, which was expressly built to house the University, and in Brussels, Charleroi, Mons, Tournai and Namur. The original University of Louvain (Universitas Lovaniensis) was founded at the center of the historic town of Leuven (or Louvain) in 1425, making it the first university in Belgium and the Low Countries. In 1968 the Catholic University of Leuven split into the Dutch-language Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, which stayed in Leuven, and the French-language Université Catholique de Louvain, which moved to Louvain-la-Neuve in Wallonia. 1. University of Antwerp

The University of Antwerp is one of the major Belgian universities located in the city of Antwerp. The official abbreviation is UA, but UAntwerpen is more recently used. UAntwerpen has about 20,000 students, which makes it the third-largest university in Flanders. UAntwerpen is characterized by its high standards in education, internationally competitive research and entrepreneurial approach. It was founded in 2003 after the merger of three smaller universities: UFSIA, RUCA, and UIA. UAntwerpen has 33 academic bachelor programs, 69 master programs, 18 master-after-master programs and 23 postgraduates. In addition, there are 31 programs completely taught in English (13 master, 14 master-after-master and 4 postgraduate programs). All of these programs are divided into 9 faculties.

At UAntwerpen students can request financial aid from the Office for Students Affairs under certain conditions, but only for the current academic year: an advance payment of your scholarships, the spread or reduction of tuition fees, a financial intervention in the cost of studying.

Students who meet all the requirements (nationality, study and financial conditions) for a scholarship may be eligible for an advance payment. At the beginning of the academic year, whereas the cost of studying is highest, scholarships haven’t usually been paid yet. The Office of Student Affairs will grant an advance payment of the scholarship for the current academic, which can amount to 50% of the granted scholarship.

Another form of financial aid is an allowance which students do not have to repay. Students who have difficulties making ends meet and/or paying their studies can request such an allowance.
