FAFSA Deadline of 7 Different States in U.S.

To apply for grants, scholarships, federal work-study and federal student loans, you have to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, for each academic year. But the FAFSA deadline differ with federal, state, and institutional aid. The two most significant dates to note are 1st October and 30th June.

FAFSA opens on October 1st each year. Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible to October 1 to increase your odds of applying for the most grant, scholarship, and work-study aid. Applications for the 2019-20 school year started accepting on October 1, 2018. The starting date for the school year 2020-21, is October 1, 2019.

Some funding is offered to students applying the earliest, such as federal work-study dollars and various state and local grants and scholarships.

States and individual colleges set their own usually much earlier FAFSA deadlines than federal ones. To apply for State and university grants and scholarships, you must submit your application by certain deadlines. In every state below you can read what you need to know about the FAFSA deadline. Here’s everything you need to know about each.

FAFSA Deadline 2021

The federal government gives students a deadline of June 30 after school year in which they need assistance — for example, June 30th, 2020, for school year 2019-20 or June 30th, 2021, for school year 2020-21 — to file the FAFSA. But you need to file the form much sooner to reach the state and college financial aid deadlines to get your support money in time for the school year to begin.

FAFSA Deadline Georgia

College-bound students in Georgia should note this deadline for FAFSA. The federal financial aid deadline for the academic year 2019-2020 is June 30th, 2020, but officials said there are benefits to completing the application early. Families should complete the FAFSA early as some financial assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis or from limited-funded programs.

Also parents and students can get ready now by getting their Social Security numbers, driver’s license information, bank statements, recent tax returns and W-2 forms.

Complete the FAFSA as senior high school, and even graduate school every year in college. The only way to stay eligible for federal student aid is to file a new FAFSA each year, and the amount of assistance will vary from year to year.

FAFSA Deadline Florida

FAFSA deadlines differ for each state to apply for state-sponsored financial assistance. State deadlines have usually stayed the same from one year to the next. A number of states are requesting students to send their FAFSA after October 1, 2020 as soon as possible. Then, once state funds are depleted, financial aid can continue to be given out. So, if you live in Florida it’s important to apply your FAFSA early. The deadline for processing documents in this state is May 15. As previously mentioned, these deadlines tend to stay the same each year.

FAFSA Deadline Texas

Completing the FAFSA is the first step towards having several different forms of financial assistance for education, and the easiest way to maximize college award packages is to complete the FAFSA early.

While the federal government has no definite deadline as to when applications for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) need to be submitted, all 50 states do so, and for Texas, the priority deadline is January 15th, 2020.

Timing counts when applying for student aid. Every year, the Federal Student Aid Office provides more than $120 billion to help students pay for higher education through grants, loans, and work-study funds. Students applying before the priority consideration deadline will be given priority for that money.

Whether you are an international student or a non-citizen, you might be eligible for tuition status as a Texas resident. If so, you can also qualify for State financial assistance. You must fill in the TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) to qualify for federal financial assistance. You can find the form here.

FAFSA Deadline Indiana

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has extended the filing period for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to 2020-21 past the initial state period.

The extension of the commission is intended to ensure that as many college students as possible will be able to receive financial aid in the coming academic year, as less than average during the coronavirus pandemic has been applied.

There is no fixed time-limit. Students who have not submitted the FAFSA before the April 15 deadline are urged to apply the application as soon as possible on the official FAFSA website, since limited funding is available on a first-come first-served basis.

The extension would apply to students seeking 21st Century Scholarship from the state, as well as the Frank O’Bannon Grant. Hoosiers applying for the Next Stage Working Workforce Ready Grant do not have an FAFSA deadline.

FAFSA Deadline Virginia

The FAFSA is made available annually on October 1. Students and their families should start applying for financial assistance from both the federal and state governments at this stage. Therefore, colleges use the form to assess the need for institutional assistance and to allocate money.

The FAFSA has an 18-month period, indicating you don’t have to apply your FAFSA formally until June 30th, 2021 to qualify for federal aid. However, you may need to complete the FAFSA much earlier in order to apply for State financial aid. Many states provide first-come, first-served financial aid. Ultimately, the sooner you complete the application, the greater the chances of getting financial assistance.

With that, it’s crucial that you know the deadline for your state and aim to complete your FAFSa by that date instead of the date of the federal government. For the students of Virginia, you might need to check with your financial aid administrator as additional forms might be required.

FAFSA Deadline Colorado

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students in Colorado is eligible for school year 2020-21 beginning October 1, 2019. Students can apply FAFSA 2020-21 using tax information from 2018. If you complete the 2019-20 school year FAFSA you can use the tax details for 2017. Complete the FAFSA to be eligible for the most financial assistance as soon as possible after October 1st.

FAFSA Deadline Arizona

Although the federal deadline requires students to file their FAFSA after the academic year has ended, that doesn’t mean schools and states are similarly lenient. You can find this information online or you can also talk to the administrator of college assistance.

Much like there is a federal financial aid deadline, each state has its own deadline for the financial support that they offer to students. At the start of the academic year several state deadlines come in the spring, so it is crucial for students to file their FAFSA as early as possible.
