University of Nebraska-Lincoln: An Overview

It is the oldest university in the state, and the largest in the system of the University of Nebraska. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln provides excellent-quality education at a lower than average rate than many similar-quality colleges. The state legislature chartered the university in 1869 as a land-grant university under the 1862 Morrill Act, two years after Nebraska became a state. At the turn of the 20th century, the university expanded significantly, hiring professors from eastern schools to teach its new professional programs and conducting groundbreaking research in agricultural sciences. Around this time, the “Nebraska method” of ecological analysis established pioneered grassland ecology and laid the groundwork for the rest of the century for work in theoretical ecology. The university is divided into eight colleges, with over 100 classroom buildings and research facilities, on two campuses in Lincoln.

How to Win Husker Power Scholarship

  1. Stay on top of your grades: Stipends are usually dependent on merit, meaning your grades are a major factor in whether you are accepted or not. Most have a minimum GPA of around 3.0 or higher so if you only reach the threshold, you probably won’t qualify. If you are having a problem with a certain class, consider having a tutor after school or asking your instructor for assistance. Then complete the maximum number of extra credit assignments for bonus points.
  2. Have an ACT/SAT prep plan: The earlier you start laying out a plan for preparing and taking either the ACT or the SAT, the better off you’ll be.
  3. Volunteer in your community: Find job which is in accordance with your interests. For instance, if you’re an athlete, consider coaching at a community center, or offering free lessons to children. Consider working at a nearby charity thrift shop if you’re into fashion. And start early; the longer you keep the pledge, the more serious you will look to the scholarship board.
  4. Get your application in as early as possible: If possible, try to get your submission in before the deadline to make sure you don’t lose out due to timing.
