About Kotzen Scholarship

The Gilbert and Marcia Kotzen Scholars Program, often known as the Kotzen Scholarship, is a competitive merit grant that acknowledges the best students at Simmons University who are engaged in transformative education.

It’s a full-ride scholarship that makes a liberal arts education more accessible. Linda K. Paresky, a Simmons alum and travel businesswoman, established the scholarship in 2013.

The primary objective was to pay tribute to her parents’ memory while also investing in a university priority. Paresky also wanted to create a cohort program at Simmons University for the brightest students so that they might have a transformative college experience as she experienced.

So far, the scholarship has benefited its beneficiaries (also known as Kotzen Scholars) in a number of ways: they are no longer concerned about the cost of their education, and they have the resources to pursue their interests outside of the classroom.

This scholarship is valid for four years of full-time undergraduate study. Kotzen Scholars are free to use their stipend anyway they see fit. Simmons University welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds to apply for the award.

In other words, it is a diversity scholarship that provides funding to applicants who are neither of a certain ethnicity or who have a particular interest in a particular culture. Women can also apply for the Kotzen Scholarship, which makes it easier for them to participate in and thrive in their college studies.

Program Benefits

The Kotzen Scholarship covers full tuition, lodging and board, as well as an additional $3,000 for academic endeavors like study abroad, research funding, and other opportunities. Moreover, thanks to the scholarship, many students admit that they would not have been able to attend a higher institution without the grant.

Eligibility Requirements

Students applying for the Kotzen Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Apply as a freshman for the fall semester
  • Have and maintain GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Manage a record of taking honors, advanced placement (AP), and international baccalaureate (IB) courses, as available in their high school systems
  • Attend a college preparatory curriculum including an advanced level math course during, or prior to, their senior year of high school
