About Park Scholarship NC State
Park Scholarship NC State is a scholarship program launched in honor of Roy H. Park, NC State alumni, and founder of the Park Foundation. The Foundation focuses on education, media, and environmental developments. The scholarship program was successfully established for the first time in 1996, thanks to a generous donation from the Park Foundation.
The scholarship program aims to provide exceptional educational opportunities for well-prepared and exceptionally talented young people. They are individuals worthy of pursuing a college degree from an outstanding university such as NC State University, a powerhouse in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering.
Since its founding, the scholarship has graduated more than 20 generations of Park Scholars, building a vibrant alumni network. Based on the available funding, the Park Foundation awards around 40 scholarships each year. Freshmen from any education at NC State may be eligible for this award.
Additionally, the Park Scholarship NC State is renewable. The prize is claimable for a total of eight semesters at NC State. However, Park Scholars must meet eligibility requirements first to renew their claim.
Basically, you will be eligible for a four-year scholarship of $116,000 (for an in-state student) or $208,000 (for an out-state student) as a Park Scholar. You can use the prize to cover:
- Tuition and fees.
- Room and board.
- Books and supplies.
- Personal expenses.
Moreover, the Park Foundation will reward you with grants to fund your personal and professional enrichment experiences. These include research projects, service activities, and conferences. Those programs may be located in the United States or abroad.
In addition, a Park Scholar is eligible for early course enrollment and an invitation to join the University Scholars Program or the University Honors Program. The latter is also available to all Park Scholarship NC State finalists.
Park Scholarship NC State Eligibility Requirements
In nominating qualifying Park Scholars, the Park Foundation selects on the basis of:
- Academic merit.
- Exemplary character.
- Exceptional potential for leadership.
- The sense of promise that they may one day make contributions of enduring importance to the betterment of the human condition.
The Park Foundation expects to identify youth who demonstrate high academic achievement and leadership. Also, it is always on the lookout for students with unusual aptitudes, uncommon talents, and unique gifts of creativity or entrepreneurial acumen. Since it is not a need-based scholarship, financial need is not a consideration.
To be eligible for a Park Scholarship NC State, you must be:
- United States citizens, permanent residents of the United States, or graduating from a United States high school regardless of citizenship status.
- Applying for fall, first-year admission into an undergraduate study program at the university.
Remember: the scholarship selection committees will evaluate candidates on four criteria at every stage of the selection process, including scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Furthermore, they heavily consider exhibited achievement and evidence of future potential.
On the other hand, to renew the Park Scholarship, past winners must meet high standards in:
- Academic performance.
- Participation in program and service activities.
Most importantly, they must be taking at least 30 credit hours per academic year to be eligible for the grant.
Park Scholarship NC State Application
To apply for the Park Scholarship NC State, be sure to apply for admission to NC State before the deadline. The online application process is relatively straightforward. You will have to access the application portal to access your scholarship application. To do so, you must either be endorsed by your high school or you must self-endorse yourself.
If your high school registered you on your behalf, check your email no later than October 16. There, you will receive your further application instructions. Contact the Park Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have not received an email. Otherwise, verify with your counselor that they provided the correct email address when registering you.
On the other hand, you can complete a Park Scholarships Self-Endorsement Form if you apply for admission to NC State through the self-endorsement route. However, make sure that you fall into one of the following categories:
- You do not attend an endorsing school, but you believe you qualify for the scholarship on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service, and character; or
- You do not receive your school’s endorsement, but you believe you are at least as competitive as the candidates your school is endorsing.
After submitting the endorsement form, you will receive an email with access to the Park Scholarships portal. Through the portal dashboards, you will have to:
- Provide the names and email addresses of two (but no more than four) recommenders.
- Submit your scholarship application.
In addition to asking about your most meaningful academic, extracurricular, work, enrichment, and service activities and honors throughout high school, the Park Scholarships application requires two essays. This essay prompts change annually. Please confirm the theme for the year you are applying by visiting the official Park Foundation website.
Make sure to submit all application materials by November 1 (for self-endorsed students) or October 15 (for school-endorsed students). These documents include the application for admission to NC State and the scholarship application. The selection committees never accept late submissions, only at the program director’s discretion.
Most importantly, note that you need not wait to submit your application for admission before beginning the scholarship application. Then, the committees will notify the recipients in early March. Likewise, they announce the new class of Park Scholars every May.
