8 Official Scholarships for Graduate Students

Some students may think once they graduate from colleges after obtaining a bachelor degree, they would no longer have an opportunity to receive other scholarships. Even they including you may believe that scholarships for graduate students is less common than those for undergraduate students. But wait! Because in fact scholarships and grants won’t stop until you complete your study in graduate program. Moreover, there are many opportunities out there you can explore and grab to secure your educational expenses of graduate degree.

 

The truth is to obtain graduate degree is likely to be more costly than undergraduate degree, which such a fact will prompt many students in US to give much effort to find various ways to receive scholarships or grants. In US itself, graduate degrees  in nursing and health for instance, will make students to pay more.

 One of the most popular scholarships for graduate students living in US is the scholarship awarded annually by (ISC)2Graduated Cybersecurity program. The scholarship ranging from $1000 up to $ 5000 is provided to students who would like to pursue either Master or Doctoral degrees in the field of cybersecurity or information assurance. Interestingly, the scholarship will not require candidates to pursue their study only in US, but in other accredited universities worldwide. Yet however, in order to successfully receive the scholarship, candidates must provide letter recommendation, CV, essay writing. They also will be asked any contribution they had to the related field. Fortunately, candidates still have opportunity to apply it this years as it will be open in November 1, 2019 until January 15, 2020.

2. Arnold W. Fritz Scholarship

Canton Audubon Society in Ohio has proudly awarded many scholarships to US students in various degrees including graduate program. The 1000 $ scholarship is awarded to those living in particular counties in Ohio such as Ashland, Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, etc.

For your information, since September 2012, the scholarship has been named Arnold W.Fritz scholarship who had dedicated his life to the field of education in the region. In order to be eligible, applicants must pursue their study in several specific fields such as environmental science, conservation, natural history and all subjects relating to nature. They are also required to write a very short essay on environmental issues. The good thing from the scholarship is that it will require only a 2.0 minimum GPA.

3. Lew Williams Scholarship and Leila Sulkes Scholarship

Established in 1969, The Freehold Area Branch of AAUW has been committed to providing more opportunities to female students of 25 year old in pursuing their education in higher degrees (graduate programs), and conducting research. One of the efforts taken is by awarding two scholarships named Lew Williams Scholarship and Leila Sulkes Scholarship. Each offers S 2000 and the deadline of this year’s application is July 31, 2019.

In order to be eligible, female students must reside in several particular communities such as Colts Neck, Englishtown, Farmingdale, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township etc and have a 3.0 minimum GPA.

4. Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship

Another scholarship awarded for only female graduate students is Gertrude M.Cox Sholarship. The scholarship is provided annually by the ASA Committee on Women in Statistics and Caucus for Women in Statistics, established in 1989. The U$ 1000-scholarship is usually awarded to only two US female students who look interested in statistics field.

For your information, the scholarship will be awarded to those admitted in a graduate statistics program by July 1 of the award year.

5. Edward S. Roth Scholarship

Edward S. Roth Scholarship, provided by Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation, is one of the scholarships in US awarded to many students including minority graduate students living in US. Students shall prove their financial needs and have strong plan to pursue their education in manufacturing engineering in particular accredited colleges. Not only that, applicants must have a 3.0 minimum GPA.  The $1000 scholarship can’t be renewed and the amount will be increased based on the availability of the funding.

The application has been closed since February 1 for this year, and the result will be announced in the end of June. Yet however, the scholarship is awarded by the Foundation annually. 6. GRCF Miller Johnson West Michigan Diversity Law School Scholarship

GRCF Miller Johnson West Michigan Diversity Law School Scholarship constitutes one of the scholarships provided for minority or colour communities living in US such as African American, Asian Hispanic, Indian Native American, Alaskan Native, etc)

It is important to note that the scholarship amounting $5000 is awarded regularly by Grand Rapids Community Foundation to those residing in Michigan and have a strong plan to pursue their study in a law degree at any accredited law school in US. Not only that, in order to be eligible to receiving the scholarship, applicants must have a 3.0 minimum GPA and show fund needs to the Committee. As a matter of fact, there are other countless scholarships provided to graduate students living in US. Eligible applicants will have more opportunities to grab one of which as long as they are able to meet the requirements. More importantly, these scholarships cover almost all education fields/programs, thus matching the student’s passion to pursue their study in several accredited universities.

Before concluding this brief article, I need to share some scholarships provided for many years for military veterans or those already retired from military duty in US to pursue their education in graduate programs (master or doctoral degrees). Luckily, as explained previously, there are several foundations, non-governmental organizations and federal state government engaging in awarding scholarships to honour these people and encourage them to pursue their education in higher degrees.

7. New York State Veterans Tuition Awards

The scholarship is provided for veterans who served in several foreign conflicts including Afghanistan, Persian Gulf, Vietnam, Korean wars, etc. the application will be closed in June 30 and the amount could reach $ 6,370. Yet however, this scholarship is only for New York State residents who are enrolled in an institution in the city.

8. Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Scholarships

One of the requirements to be eligible for applying the scholarship is applicants must be current member of the Army Aviation Association of America. Other requirements is that candidates shall submit a brief essay regarding their life experiences, goals and stories of their duties. The amount of the scholarship awarded annually will be ranging from $1000 to 4000. The deadline for the application is just over in May 1, 2019.

Numerous other scholarships can be considered for veterans are Georgia’s Hero Scholarship Program, New Mexico Vietnam Veteran’s Scholarship, Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG) Program, etc.
