1. Athletic Scholarships

Most think CSULB is best known for its engineering majors, but they also have great athletic teams for sports lovers and athletes. In fact, CSULB boasts 18 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sports, including baseball, basketball, and volleyball.

2. President’s Scholars Program

The University Honors Program (UHP) at CSULB is committed to providing an academically enriched for a diversely talented, premier group of highly qualified students. This program was designed to offer students the best of a thriving liberal arts college experience.

3. The Robert R. Sawdey CSULB Scholarships

This scholarship is specifically awarded to those with a career interest in criminal justice, e.g., working as a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent. It is an excellent opportunity for current undergraduate students who have completed at least 12 units.

Selection criteria include Grade Point Average (GPA) and essays. The best thing about this scholarship is that students are allowed to apply even if they are recipients of other loans or scholarships so long as the total award does not exceed the tuition fees.

4. CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement

Do you have outstanding academic performance, community service experience, and notable personal achievements, but struggle financially to pay for school? If so, this is the scholarship for you! These need- and merit-based scholarships are available to both CSULB undergraduate and graduate students.

The CSU Trustees’ Award package consists of three different programs: Ali C. Razi Scholarship, Galinson Scholarship, and Hampton Scholarship. Each is awarded according to a strict set of qualifications. Applications are available through the CSULB financial aid office.

5. Gregson Bautzer Scholarship

CSULB awards the Gregson Bautzer Scholarship exclusively to graduates of the California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS). To be considered for this award, interested students need to be nominated by CAMS first.

Nomination considerations include demonstration of superior academic performance and financial need. Only two students will be designated as recipients each year, making it one of the most competitive scholarships.

6. Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont Scholarship

Students with disabilities should not be deterred from considering studying at CSULB. This university is dedicated to welcoming students from diverse backgrounds.

The manifestation of that pledge is attested by the provision of financial aid for impaired students, one of which is the Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont Scholarship. It is open to disabled undergraduate students from any major at CSULB who hold a GPA of at least 2.8 and demonstrate financial need.

There will be eight scholarships awarded each academic year. So, if you meet the requirements above, be sure not to miss out on this opportunity.

7. Jim Sanders Media and Leadership Scholarship

Planning to establish a career in media? This program can help you to bring your plans to reality! As its name suggests, the Jim Sanders Media and Leadership Scholarship recognizes undergraduate students with an interest in working in any aspect of media, such as marketing, sales, or graphic design.

In the spirit of Jim Sanders, a news director at several television stations known for his unyielding integrity and positivity, this scholarship will reward one freshman or first-semester student in each academic year. Applications are only available in the Spring term.

8. Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship

This is another scholarship specially reserved for CSULB undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities. The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarships is one of the most generous with a total of 36 awards made each academic year.

It was founded in honor of Dale M. Schoettler, a successful businessman from Mountain View whose blindness did not stop him from pursuing his professional endeavors. Candidates must have a GPA of at least 2.8 and be currently enrolled in 6 units to be considered.

9. ASI-CSULB Study Abroad Scholarship

As mentioned earlier, CSULB also supports students who aspire to enrich their college years by studying abroad. Through the awarding of scholarships like the ASI-CSULB Study Abroad Scholarship, for example, students can pursue their dreams without worrying about suffocating costs.

In particular, this scholarship has various types of packages. For example, it includes student exchange programs or semesters in cities of choice at any season of the year. A good academic standing is necessary to pass the selection.

10. Career Development Center Scholarships

CSULB’s Career Development Center also specifically offers their own scholarships for students seeking internships or study abroad opportunities. It is available in two types: semester and short-term programs. Like the previous program, this scholarship also gives priority to students with satisfying academic performance.

In addition, candidates must be recipients of a Federal Pell Grant (undergraduate students) or a State Grant (graduate students). Most interestingly, only first-generation students will be prioritized for the prize.

11. NSEP David Boren Undergraduate Scholarships

As suggested by its name, this scholarship is available to CSULB undergraduate students interested in studying abroad. With this scholarship, recipients will have the opportunity to study in various parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Candidates should have an interest in studying in national security-related fields in their destination country. Past winners have generally demonstrated a keen interest in learning non-traditional languages, such as Korean, Arabic, and Swahili.

12. Freeman-ASIA Scholarships

In partnership with the Freeman Foundation, CSULB awards Freeman-ASIA Scholarships for students planning to study in East or Southeast Asia. These opportunities allow winners to study abroad at a low cost by providing financial resources to cover airfare, living expenses, books, and more.

It is open only to undergraduate students. Eligibility criteria include possession of a GPA of 2.8 or higher, demonstration of financial need, and having little or no prior study experience in the destination country.
