  1. University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg Scholarships and Awards: Scholarships in South Africa for undergraduates to study at the University of Witwatersrand, worth up to 155,000 ZAR. Most of these scholarships are based on academic merit. The available options are:
    • University Entrance Scholarships: Awarded on the basis of the NSC admission point score (APS) as follows:
      • APS of 51 or above (excluding Life Orientation): 42,000 ZAR
      • APS between 48 and 50 (excluding Life Orientation): 30,000 ZAR
      • APS between 45 and 47 (excluding Life Orientation): 15,000 ZAR
      • APS between 43 and 44 (excluding Life Orientation): 10,000 ZAR

Applicants writing the Cambridge A & AS-Level or International Baccalaureate Qualification will receive a scholarship for the number of A and B symbols achieved on a sliding scale ranging from 5,000 ZAR up to a maximum of 30,000 ZAR.

    • Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship: Awarded to ten most outstanding matriculants, worth approximately 50,000 ZAR. The scholarship is renewable for each year of the first undergraduate degree provided that academic performance is of a high standard. The award is automatically offered after registration. No application is required.
    • Equality Scholarships: Awarded to Top 10 achievers from Quintile 1 and 2 schools. It covers tuition, accommodation and a monthly stipend for the duration of the UG degree (provided that academic performance is of a high standard). The current value is approximately 110,000 ZAR per annum. The award is automatically offered after registration. No application is required.
  1. Aga Khan International Scholarship Program: A limited number of scholarships offered each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students who have no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis. Eligible applicants are those nationals of, or originally from the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique.
  2. Aurecon South Africa Bursary Scheme: Awarded to most deserving students studying towards a BSc or BEng in Civil, Mechanic, Electronic, Mechatronics, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering and other related disciplines at a recognized institution of higher learning in South Africa, and who can identify with anyone of Aurecon’s attributes. Recipients will benefit up to 20,000 ZAR (subject to change) per year. Additionally, recipients are guaranteed practical training or vocation work applicable to the qualification, as required by their institution. Applications are open from July 2, 2019 to August 31, 2019.
  3. Dudley D’Ewes Scholarships: Annual scholarships valued up to 10,000 ZAR each for post-honors studies. The scholarships are available to all in possession of a University Honors degree and candidates must potentially contribute to the fulfillment of the Cape Tercentenary Foundation’s (or Cape 300 Foundation) mission: to preserve, promote and encourage literature, the visual and performing arts and the natural and cultural environment of the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape Provinces. Scholarships may be renewed in whole or in part for a further period not exceeding one year provided that the candidate submits a satisfactory progress report from the supervisor/s. Studies must be undertaken in South Africa.
  4. Canon Collins Scholarships for Postgraduate Study in South Africa: Scholarships offered by the Canon Collins Trust to support exceptional individuals who are committed to social justice in Southern Africa and for whom a postgraduate qualification is an essential tool in working to create an open and just society. The scholarships are offered to those studying in one of three areas: Justice (which includes Law, Economics, Politics and the Environment), Education (policy and practice) and Humanities (which includes Literature, History, Anthropology and the Arts). Eligible applicants are those who are nationals of, or have refugee status in, one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. As for the 2020 academic year, the scholarship package will range from 20,000 ZAR to 100,000 ZAR depending on student circumstances. Eligible applicants will automatically be considered for these named scholarships:
    • Ros Moger and Terry Furlong: Awards valued approximately 70,000 ZAR to 100,000 ZAR each year for studies at Master’s and PhD level. The scholarships are available to support both full and part-time studies and applications from those who wish to study by distance learning will be considered.
    • Sol Plaatje Canon Collins Scholarships: Up to 20 scholarships are awarded every year, with each scholarship valued at 65,000 ZAR (and in exceptional cases may be offered up to 100,000 ZAR) per year for studies at Master’s and PhD level. Both full and part-time studies are supported and applications from those who wish to study by distance learning will be considered.
  1. University of Cape Town Scholarships: A variety of scholarships offered to study at the University of Cape Town, for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
    • Entrance Scholarships: Faculties offer two kinds of undergraduate scholarships:
      • Faculty Entrance Scholarships: Awarded to applicants on the basis of NSC achievement in open and redness pools. Redress is determined by an applicant’s disadvantage factor. Scholarships are available to undergraduate students who are applying to enter the University for the first time, and are for the first year of study.
      • Faculty Scholarships: Awarded to returning students on the basis of academic achievement in open and redress pools. Redress is determined by self-declared racial identity. No disadvantage factor is available for 2019 returning students. The scholarships are offered to students in their second or third year of undergraduate study. Some Faculties also make awards for subsequent years of study.
    • Sports Scholarships: Offered to students who have represented their countries in any sport at a national schools or age-group level. The closing date for submission of applications is September 30 every year for study in the following year.
    • Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship: Valued at 40,000 ZAR per annum and are valid for three years, subject to a recipient being named on the Dean’s Merit List in his/her faculty, at the levels specified by the faculty.
    • Achievement Scholarships: Awards based on developing partnerships with particular school groups or schools in a geographical area. Applicants from these partner schools will be considered for these scholarships should they meet the criteria. No application is required.
    • International and Refugee Scholarships: A limited number of postgraduate scholarships are offered each year to international and refugee students. These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and preference is given to senior candidates. The scholarships are renewable for the duration of the course of study, if satisfactory progress is maintained, for one year at honors level, two at Master’s level and three at Doctoral level. Applicants must apply for full-time admissions through the UCT admissions office or the faculty office. The closing date for scholarship applications is July 31 (preceding the year of study).
  1. Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships: Four scholarships offered for 2020 for two-year research Master’s programs at Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) affiliated universities in South Africa. Citizens of Commonwealth countries other than South Africa are eligible to apply. The scholarships are only tenable in the subjects listed for each university.
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal:
      • College of Law and Management Studies (any courses)
      • College of Health Sciences (any courses)
      • College of Agriculture, Engineering and Sciences (MSc in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Agriculture or Engineering)
    • University of Johannesburg – all Master’s courses are available
    • North West University:
      • Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (MSc in Astrophysics, Environmental Sciences, or Chemistry)
      • Faculty of Engineering (MSc in Industrial Engineering)
      • Faculty of Health Sciences (MSc in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or Pharmaceutics)
      • Faculty of Humanities (MA in History, Music, Social Anthropology, Development Studies, or International Relations)
    • University of Pretoria – all Master’s courses are available
    • Rhodes University – all full-time postgraduate courses with registration based at Rhodes University in Grahamstown are eligible for this award
    • Stellenbosch University:
