Overview
The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science together with Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship program is first and foremost a means of profiling Dutch higher education. It is aimed at stimulating talented international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to study in Holland.
The Holland Scholarship was set up as a result of the Vision on internationalization set out by the VSNU (the Association of Universities in the Netherlands) and the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, as well as the letter of the Ministry of Education Culture and Science in June 2014 outlining the government’s vision on internationalization. One of the essential points in both documents was the strong demand for a new Dutch scholarship program aimed at student mobility.
This scholarship is meant for international students from outside the EEA who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in the Netherlands. The EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Please note that students from Switzerland and Suriname are not eligible to apply.
The scholarship amounts to € 5,000 to contribute to your living costs in the Netherlands. You will receive this in the first year of your studies. The grant is awarded for 1 year and can only be received once.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Holland Scholarship, you have to fulfill the basic requirements set out below.
- You have to be a non-EEA resident.
- You must apply for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s program at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions.

- You do not have a previous degree from any educational institution in the Netherlands.
- You have completed your pre-university education outside The Netherlands.

Closing Dates
The application round for the academic year 2021-2022 will open on 1 November 2020. The deadline for application is either 1 February 2020 or 1 May 2020.
