Program Overview
Jack and Jill of America Foundation is committed to the positive development of African American Youth as future leaders. Through providing programs focused on financial literacy, education, mentoring, health and wellness, and early childhood development, the Foundation promotes the preparation of succeeding generations of African American leaders.
Jack and Jill of America Foundation is excited to support African American students in their pursuits of higher education, enabling them to attain their fullest potential as individuals, enjoy rewarding and fulfilling lives, and contribute to global peace and prosperity. It is through generous contributions from Jack and Jill of America, Inc. chapters across the country that the Foundation is able to provide Jack and Jill of America Scholarship to deserving college freshmen who meet the program qualifications.
Eligibility
To be declared a valid winner of the Jack and Jill of America Scholarship, you must meet the following conditions.
- Be an incoming freshman at an accredited 4-year institution and enrolled full-time for the 2020-21 academic year.
- Be an African American citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 of 4.0 scale at the time of high school graduation.
- Have completed a minimum of 60 hours of active community service during the 2019-2020 academic year.
- Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a demonstrated unmet financial need (verified by your institution’s Financial Aid Office).
How to Apply
If you are interested in applying for the Jack and Jill of America Scholarship program, you are required to follow the following registration processes.
- Complete the online application in its entirety.
- Complete a 1-page essay that describes your career interest(s). Your essay should be drafted in Word or another program, then cut and pasted into the essay field of the application.
- Upload a copy of your most recent official or unofficial academic transcript.
- Upload a completed and signed Community Service Verification Form. Form must be signed electronically by the Service Project supervisor and the student; a separate form must be used for each service project.
All of fields on the application marked with an asterisk (*) are required. All materials listed above in How to Apply section are required. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Expired Date
The Jack and Jill of America Scholarship is available to students starting on May 5, 2020 and will end on August 6, 2020 at 5 pm EST.

Success Tips
- The essay is one of the most critical aspects of the application for a scholarship. Customize the style and the essay material to fit with the goals and outlook of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Doing so will add massive boost to your application. Try to keep your essay’s word count as similar to the given word count as possible. Double-check that your essay answers all the questions you have asked and meets all the specifications.
- If you want to win the Jack and Jill of America Scholarship money stick to deadlines. You can be kicked out of online systems or thrown into the “no” pile if your application is late – no matter how perfect you are for the scholarship. Using a calendar or planner to stay on top of due dates, set email reminders or alarms on your mobile phone – whatever it takes to make sure you’re on track.
- There are plenty of opportunities if you’re ready to start volunteering. Although some scholarships can allow you to work with a particular agency, others are extremely flexible. You can visit animal shelters, community centers, food banks, schools, clinics, boy or girl scouts, and many more alongside local branches of big-name organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity and the Unified Way. Consider what triggers your heart is closest to, and begin searching there. This will make the experience as fulfilling as it might be profitable.
- It can be hard to rapidly increase your GPA, particularly if you’re already in the latter half of high school. There are however some steps that you can take to have a better chance of quickly and efficiently increasing your GPA. When your GPA is still struggling in a high-level class because of a low grade, it might be time to cut your losses. For a lower-level class you would be able to get a slightly better grade very easily, thereby improving your GPA much faster than if you were to fail in a challenging course. Besides¸ you can also focus on standardized test scores. Technically it’s not a tactic to lift your GPA. Nonetheless, if it’s too late to increase your GPA before qualifying for a scholarship, raising standardized test scores is your best bet for better chances of winning.
