The Thurgood Marshall and Sallie Mae Scholarships

Historically, there are several groups, notably African American and Black students, who have been shut out of the educational system. As the country’s biggest organization solely dedicated to representing the Black college community, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) was established in 1987 to address the discrepancy.

The Thurgood Marshall and The Sallie Mae Scholarship 2022-2023 are anticipated to be beneficial to students who identify as belonging to historically underrepresented groups. This fund will enable students who are already enrolled in college but are having problems paying their tuition to get support in order for them to complete their degrees.

1. Bridging Dream Scholarship for Graduate School Students

As part of TMCF and The Sallie Mae Fund’s commitment to assisting students from all walks of life in achieving their goals of obtaining a higher education, the Bridging the Dream for Graduate Students Scholarship has been established.

This scholarship makes it possible for students who come from historically disadvantaged groups, such as minorities and women, to continue their education beyond the undergraduate level.

A scholarship in the amount of $10,000 is available to be applied for by graduate students who are having financial difficulties and who are trying to complete a graduate or professional degree program.

2. Sallie Mae Fund Completing the Dream Gap Scholarship

Higher education is a clear road to opportunity, but minority students are less likely to complete their degree programs than their white counterparts.

To help students from historically underprivileged areas complete their postsecondary education, the Sallie Mae Fund has developed the Completing the Dream Gap Scholarship to overcome financial barriers of students from underserved communities.

A one-time award of up to $2,500 is available to students who are on schedule to finish their degree or continuing education program but are having financial difficulties.

Scholarships totaling $1.95 million will be awarded by TMCF and The Sallie Mae Fund to enable students from underprivileged areas accomplish their higher education dreams by 2024.
