About the American University Scholarships

For more than a century, American University has welcomed students from around the world. At AU, the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) department has a simple goal: to ensure that every world-minded student receives a global education and that it is available here at the university.

An important role of the ISSS is to serve as a resource for the campus community’s efforts to bridge cultural boundaries. Its mission is to educate, advocate for, and train the university community in order to provide high-quality services and programs.

International students and scholars are also encouraged to grow academically and personally by this body, which values variety and a global perspective. ISSS grants large scholarships to international students to study and obtain college degrees at AU in order to achieve these noble goals.

Merit Awards for Undergraduate Students

International merit prizes at American University are partial scholarships, not full ones. Academic excellence, leadership, volunteerism, and community service all play a role in the selection process for these honors.

In order to receive a merit scholarship, students must compete against each other in a very tough process. Merit prizes from AU are given out at the time of application, not after acceptance. All four years of the scholarship are renewable if the student maintains a B average or higher.

Merit Awards for Graduate Students

Graduate merit grants may be available to outstanding international master’s and doctorate students. Each year, these prizes grant students a tuition waiver ranging from twelve credits to the entire school year’s worth of credits. Stipends are another possibility.

Programs Benefits

International undergraduates who do not get a full-tuition scholarship are eligible for partial scholarships. As an international student, you may be eligible for financial aid to help cover some of the costs connected with attending the university. Scholarships ranged from $8,000 to $20,000 per academic year.

On the other hand, tuition waivers are intended to help graduate students who otherwise would not be able to attend college. A waiver permits a student to avoid paying a portion of their tuition. That is to say, students must still pay any remaining tuition that is not waived.

Stipends for graduate students are also possible. As a student, you’ll receive a predetermined amount of money to assist pay the costs of transportation, lodging and food. Payments can be made on a weekly or monthly basis, or all at once, depending on the available funds.

Academics at the American University offer these stipends to encourage researchers to continue their work on specific projects, such as writing books and scholarly articles, translating works, or interpreting and analyzing collected data.

American University Scholarships Eligibility Requirements

First-year applicants must have a stellar academic record to be eligible for a merit award. The ISSS uses a variety of factors to determine your academic standing, including your grade point average (GPA), the subjects you took, and how well you did on standardized tests. If you’ve done well in the classroom, these certifications will reflect it.

To be eligible for an American University Scholarship, you must also be among the best in your specialty. Extracurricular activities and leadership abilities are necessary for admission. Academic extracurriculars such as debate, student government, or math teams can help you qualify for the award.

ISSS also asks that you volunteer or perform community service for a specified number of hours weekly or monthly in order to be considered for a scholarship from the university.

Meanwhile, graduate merit awards will be automatically considered for all master’s and doctorate students in their respective departments.
