The long tradition of education in Germany is widely respected. Germany has approximately 450 universities accredited by the state and there are 17,500 study programs for degrees in the country. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is a research university with campuses in Munich, Garching and Freising-Weihenstephan. Established in 1868, TUM is one of Europe’s best universities. It is committed to excellence in research and teaching, interdisciplinary education and the active promotion of promising young scientists. It ranks among the best European universities in international rankings by Times Higher Education and QS.

There are a number of scholarship opportunities that you can take to study at TUM.

  • Scholarship for International Students: merit-based/need-based, one-time financial aid of €500 to €1,500 per semester, for currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students with non-German university entrance certificates.
  • General Scholarship: merit-based scholarship for currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students with university entrance certificates from Germany or abroad. It is part of the German National Scholarship Program (Deutschlandstipendium). Values €300 per month.
  • Nicolaus Scholarship Fund: need-based, one-time scholarship valued €150 to €450, for currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students with university entrance certificates from Germany or abroad.
  • Loschge Scholarship: merit-based scholarship valued up to €550 per month, for undergraduate and graduate students of the School of Mechanical Engimeering (in the field of thermal engineering) with university entrance certificates from Germany or abroad.
  • Oskar Karl Foster Scholarship for Books and Learning Materials: merit-based/need-based financial aid for books and learning materials, valued from €100 to €500, for currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students with university entrance certificates from Germany or abroad.
  • Leonard Lorenz Foundation: merit-based awards for doctoral and post-doctoral students. Valued up to €1,500 for conference participation and up to €5,000 for research projects.

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU or the University of Munich) is a public research university located in Munich, Germany. It is German’s sixth-oldest university in continuous operation. Originally established in Ingolstadt in 1472, the University was moved in 1800 to Landshut before being relocated to its present-day location in Munich in 1826. Since the 19th century, the University of Munich has been considered as one of Germany’s as well as one of Europe’s most prestigious universities.

Heidelberg University is a public research university in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Humboldt University of Berlin is a university located in the central borough of Mitte in Berlin, Germany. The RWTH Aachen University is a research university located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. With more than 45,000 students enrolled in 157 study programs (of which 16 are private courses of study), spread across a total of 9 faculties, it is the largest technical university in the country. Established in 1870, RWTH Aachen University is one of Germans top 10 universities. It is also ranked in the top 150 universities by QS.

RWTH Aachen has compiled a list of scholarships awarded, administered, or arranged by RWTH Aachen.

  • AICES Graduate Studies: scholarship for doctoral students who hold a Master’s or Diploma degree. Includes a monthly stipend of €2000.
  • BRIDGEWORK Scholarships: for students admitted to RWTH Aachen University in any study program and degree.
  • Education Fund (National Scholarship): two scholarship programs: the NRW Scholarship Program from the State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research, and the Deutschland Scholarship fro the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The Education Fund provides students with €300 monthly and offers non-monetary support in the form of a framework program.
  • Erasmus+ Student Mobility: covers living costs, tuition fees, intensive language courses fees.
  • Heinrich-Hertz-Scholarships: merit-based scholarships awarded to doctoral and postdoctoral students for study and research.
  • Henry Ford Scholarships: merit-based scholarships which include monthly stipend of €300 for at least one year, for female students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
  • IDEA League Research Grant: for doctoral students from any field of study related to engineering.
  • PROMOS Studienresen: funding for 5-15 doctoral students from any faculty, who are planning on pursuing a study trip in one of the eligible countries. Valued €45 per person, per day, and can be funded with a partial scholarship from DAAD.
