The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a last-dollar award that combines academics with mentorship and service learning. By removing financial obstacles and enabling students to put a greater emphasis on their studies, it seeks to boost enrolment in higher education and enhance overall student achievement.
Students all too frequently think that attending college is simply out of their price range and reach. Students who would be the first in their family to attend college are especially aware of this.
In fact, though, a large number of students may be qualified for financial aid, which would significantly reduce the price of attending college.
The Nevada Promise Scholarship aims to enhance the proportion of graduating seniors who prepare for and enroll in college as well as the number of students who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Consequently, more and more Nevada students are receiving the financial aid for which they are qualified by raising the FAFSA completion rate. This scholarship is for high school seniors who want to attend college without having to pay tuition or other fees.

About the Nevada Promise Scholarship
The Nevada State Legislature created the Nevada Promise Grant, a last-dollar scholarship, in 2017. It is intended for all graduating high school seniors, regardless of their financial situation or academic standing.
The Nevada Promise Scholarship, which is based on the extremely effective Tennessee Promise, intends to inspire all graduating high school seniors to start thinking about and taking proactive measures towards going to college.
After all other forms of gift aid available to a student have been used, the program covers registration fees and other mandatory fees for up to three years for eligible students at a Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) community institution.
Beginning in their final year of high school, students must meet a number of requirements to be eligible for the Nevada Promise Scholarship, which includes performing required community service.
If a student satisfies all of the program’s requirements, they are exempt from paying the registration and other necessary fees assessed to in-state residents. Additionally, they are eligible to enroll in an associate degree or certificate program of study at an NSHE community college.
Best of all, there are no income or high school GPA requirements! Additionally, it is offered to all Nevada high school graduates who start attending their preferred community colleges the fall after graduation and who graduate between August 1 and June 15.
Program Benefits
As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship covers the cost of the registration and mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid (tuition is not charged to residents of Nevada).
Registration fees are charged to all credit bearing courses. On the other hand, the mandatory fees are charged to all students at a community college, excluding special courses fee and other student fees.
Meanwhile, gift aid is defined as:
- Federal Pell Grant;
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG);
- Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship (GGMS); or
- Silver State Opportunity Grant (SSOG).
A student may receive financial aid through the Nevada Promise Scholarship for up to three years. It is dependent on the amount of money that is available because there is no maximum prize. The Nevada Promise Scholarship Legislation does not currently provide funding or summer courses.
Eligibility Requirements
Nevada students may apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship at any community college as of the 2018 graduating high school class. Students must either have received the Nevada Promise Scholarship in the past or have recently graduated from high school in order to be eligible.
In addition, a student must:
- Be classified as a Nevada resident for tuition purposes by the institution where they plan to receive the scholarship.
- Not have earned a prior associate or bachelor’s degree.
- By June 15, have earned one of the following during their high school senior academic year:
- High school diploma from a public or private high school located in Nevada;
- High school diploma from a public high school in a county of another state that borders Nevada and accepts Nevada residents;
- General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent document; or
- A homeschooled student may satisfy this eligibility requirement by obtaining a general equivalency diploma or equivalent document (i.e. GED, HSET or TASC).
- Be less than 20 years of age by June 30 of their high school senior academic year.
- Not be in default on any federal student loan.
- Enroll in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
- Not owe a refund to any federal student aid program.
The Nevada Promise Scholarship Application
Complete the scholarship application before the deadline to be eligible for the Nevada Promise Scholarship. Next, apply for admission to the college of your choice. After that, finish a training course provided by the college by March 1 at the latest.

Finally, you are required to carry out all of these no later than April 30:
- Meet at least once with their mentor (assigned by the college);
- Complete at least 20 hours of eligible community service;
- Attend a second training meeting offered by the college; and
- Complete any additional requirements for financial aid, including but not limited to verification if applicable.
Closing Date
Complete and submit your application form no later than 11:59 p.m. on October 31. Incomplete forms and late submissions will be automatically qualified.
